Malaysia is all set to organize its third edition of Malaysia International Film festival (MIFFest) and Malaysia Golden Global Awards (MGGA). This event which started in the year 2017 is all about the annual films and awards festival, which focuses on endorsing the growing moviemaking talent of the country by screening international films for its audience. The Malaysian arts and culture along with tourism are also advertised to the international audience. It is going to be a seven-day festival where MIFFest is going to commence on the 14th of July and will run till the 19th of July followed by the MGGA event on the 20th of July.
Jazzy group of Malaysia is an entity undertaking all the responsibility of organizing the awards and fest. Joanne Goh (MIFFest Chairman and Executive Producer of Jazzy Group) considers this event as a very good platform for showcasing the Talent of Malaysians to the global audience.
The jury panel of MIFFest of this time has created a buzz in India as it comprises of the famous Indian Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani along with other judges like Cinematographer Kim-Hyung Koo of South Korea, Actress Cecilia Yip of Hong Kong, Director Joko Anwar of Indonesia, Helmer Ho Yuhang of Malaysia.
Rajkumar Hirani is the man behind many box-office megahit movies like ‘Munna Bhai M.B.B.S’, ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’, ‘3 Idiots’, ‘PK’, ‘Sanju’.
This news is not appreciated by many. NYIFF Director and author Aseem Chhabra has highly criticized the Malaysian Fest team for nominating Rajkumar Hirani as the jury member, who has been alleged in a case of sexual harassment. A co-worker at Rajkumar Hirani films blamed the filmmaker for assaulting her for duration of 6 months in the year 2018. However, Rajkumar completely disagrees with these allegations and is still to receive a clean chit. Hence, Aseem Chhabra feels that the Rajkumar cannot be a jury part of an International platform with these allegations.
