Macaulay Culkin, the actor best known for “Home Alone”, made a notable cameo in episode 3 of “Fallout” Season 2 on Prime Video.
Macaulay Culkin, the 1990s child star, left a lasting impression with the iconic film “Home Alone”, where he played young Kevin McCallister who was left behind by his parents and forced to ward off clumsy burglars. The movie was a huge hit, catapulting the young actor’s career and leading to roles in family comedies like “Getting Even with Dad”, “The Pagemaster”, and of course, “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York”.
Despite being a golden goose for his family (which led to numerous legal battles), and facing intense pressure, Culkin decided to end his career in 1994. He didn’t make a return to the screen until the 2000s, and even then, only sporadically and never in leading roles. So fans were in for a surprise when they spotted him playing a post-apocalyptic Roman legionnaire in an episode of the “Fallout” series!
A Universe Where Anything is Possible
The science fiction series “Fallout”, based on the popular video game of the same name, has been known to throw curveballs, but this was a surprise. On reflection, however, casting someone like Macaulay Culkin as a man driven insane by the apocalypse and convinced he’s a Roman legionnaire actually makes sense. Why? Because it’s precisely these unexpected choices that make the franchise so rich, as Culkin himself explained to IGN :
“[I love Fallout because] there’s nothing inconsistent with the franchise. […] You can find zombies, monsters, and all kinds of similar creatures. And then there are aliens. Anything you can think of, you can put it in the game. […] There’s no predefined form. You can kind of insert any form into this hole.” So, nothing strange about ghouls chasing Macaulay Culkin dressed as a legionnaire!
These unlikely ingredients are what make “Fallout” so popular: a tonal freedom that allows everything, without ever descending into chaos. While this mix may seem challenging on paper, the first episodes of Season 2 reveal the secret: just take the humor seriously.
“Fallout” is available on Prime Video.
