Following the triumph of “The Gentlemen” on Netflix, Guy Ritchie is gearing up for a new series, revisiting a well-known character he’s previously brought to the big screen.
After the smashing hit of The Gentlemen on Netflix, Guy Ritchie is already setting his sights on his next series project. The filmmaker will be producing and directing a forthcoming drama that Prime Video has officially commissioned, according to Variety.
For this endeavor, Guy Ritchie will be revisiting a famous character he’s previously directed in film – Sherlock Holmes. About fifteen years after directing Sherlock Holmes and its sequel Sherlock Holmes 2: A Game of Shadows featuring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, the British director will be crafting a series focused on the young Sherlock Holmes.
The protagonist of “After” as a young Sherlock Holmes
Titled Young Sherlock, this series, created by Matthew Parkhill, is based on Andy Lane’s book series about the adventures of a young Sherlock Holmes. The character will be depicted at the age of 19, inexperienced, as he finds himself wrapped up in the mystery of a murder at Oxford University.
Caught up in his very first case with a noticeable lack of discipline, the young man tries to unravel a conspiracy that could forever change his life.
The young Sherlock will be portrayed by Hero Fiennes Tiffin, known for his role as Hardin in the After series and his portrayal of young Tom Riddle in the Harry Potter series. This will be the second collaboration between Hero Fiennes Tiffin and Guy Ritchie as the director previously directed the actor in the upcoming film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, set to be released soon in France.
In a statement, Guy Ritchie expressed his excitement about directing and producing this series:
“In Young Sherlock, we will see an exciting new rendition of the detective everybody thinks they know in a way they’ve never imagined before. We will delve into this enigmatic character, uncover what drives him and learn how he becomes the genius we all love.”
