Ask a book lover and they will tell you that the book is always better than the movie. But now because of the surge in shows on the streaming platform, it is hard to keep up with shows. The platforms are sometimes running out of content to serve up, that’s why they are turning to the books.
Look at all the popular shows right now, most of them are based on books. The Handmaid’s Tale was the first of its kind. The dystopia novel by Margaret Astwood became the basis of the show. It became a huge hit. While the book was published in 1985, the show was made in 2017.
Now, there are many shows like Bridgerton based on the book by Julia Quinn, the Queen’s Gambit, ” “Lupin” and “Firefly Lane,” etc. There are many shows which are now being created from books. The New York Times Bestseller List is the right place to look if Streamers want more content to create.
Gone are the days when books were just shelved. Now books are becoming the inspiration for creating shows. The trend shows no sign of stopping and in 2021 there will be more shows. That includes Brit Bennett’s “The Vanishing Half” to HBO, “Nine Perfect Strangers” by Liane Moriarty is due on Hulu in 2021, “Daisy Jones & The Six” by Taylor Jenkins Reid is being made for Amazon, and “Leave the World Behind” by Rumaan Alam is coming to Netflix (starring Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington). Keep an eye out for these shows to hit the screens.
