Best women cricketers from India and other parts of the world are all set to come together for a three-team Women’s T20 Challenge which is scheduled to take place during IPL 2019 playoffs week in May, announced the BCCI on Tuesday.
The tournament will be taking place between 6 May and May 11 at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur. The single round-robin matches will have three teams, Trailblazers, Velocity and Supernovas take on one another before two teams having the highest points qualify for the final. All of these matches will be standalone games.
Last year, the BCCI had held a one-off Exhibition Game, just before the IPL playoff game in Mumbai. At the time, the Trailblazers, led by Smriti Mandhana had contested with Supernovas, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, with the latter winning by 3 wickets. Elite women cricketers like Meg Lanning, Ellyse Perry, Alyssa Healy, Suzie Bates, Sophie Devine and Beth Mooney were a part of that game. And now, this year’s four match T20 challenge is an extension of the previous year’s expanded tournament and another step for a full-fledged Women’s IPL.
Though the complete list of players hasn’t been confirmed yet, it is expected that prominent names will congregate for the upcoming tournament.
