Dylan Minnette, an American actor well known for his role in the Netflix series “13 Reasons Why”, has taken a break from acting to focus on his passion for music.
Even a lead actor of a successful Netflix series needs to recharge once in a while! This is the path chosen by actor Dylan Minnette. After starring in three seasons of the hit series 13 Reasons Why and appearing in the 2022 film Scream, Dylan Minnette has decided to step back from the acting world, and he has his reasons. While there may not be 13 of them, there’s no need to split hairs!
During an appearance on the Zach Sang Show podcast, the actor revealed why he decided to take a break from his acting career:

“It also started to feel like a job”
I was fortunate to find success with 13 Reasons Why, which was very popular and definitely marked a peak in my acting abilities. But it also started to feel like a job. I was in a very privileged position, it was always fun for me, always very inspiring, but it started to feel more like a job than a passion.
The monotony of playing the same character and the repetition that can set in during the long filming of a series seemed to have dampened his enthusiasm. Moreover, another ambition was pulling him in a different direction. At 27, the former actor has decided to fully dedicate himself to another passion: music.
“I feel like I’m in a position now where I can just do [music] for a while and push this project as far as possible. The only way to achieve this is to dedicate 100% of my time and energy to it, take it seriously, and show the world that we’re taking this very seriously”, he shared.
Along with his band Wallows, which was formed in 2017, Dylan Minnette plays alternative rock influenced by 80s music. They have released three albums to date, in 2019, 2022, and 2024. Minnette has also written songs that have appeared in films and series he has acted in, such as Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, 13 Reasons Why, Castle Rock, and even Miss Marvel.
Despite all of this, Minnette does not rule out a potential return to the screen: “I feel like I have something to offer, and it’s probably in acting… I feel the inspiration coming back for that. When we’re done with our commitments with Wallows and ready to take a break, it will give me time to find the perfect inspiration again.”
