The sequel to “Inside Out,” known as “Inside Out 2,” has become a blockbuster hit. Viewers will have the opportunity to reconnect with Riley and her emotions in a new Disney+ series, which will take a different approach from the films.
Pete Docter, the Chief Creative Officer at Pixar Animation Studios, has spilled some beans about the upcoming spin-off series from the “Inside Out” universe, set to premiere on Disney+ in 2025. He shared some fascinating details about the series and its setting in a recent interview.
“We’re done. It will be out next spring. I’m not sure if there’s a precise release date yet,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “In the first movie, remember we went to Dream Production to see how Riley’s dreams are made? That partially explains why they’re so strange.”
He went on to say: “We’ve also further explored the power of dreams and how they affect us in our waking life. So that’s pretty cool.”
Meanwhile, “Inside Out 2” is making waves in theaters. The sequel has proven to be a global box office success, breaking several records. With its earnings of $154.2 million, Inside Out 2 has had the second biggest opening ever for an animated film domestically and the second biggest for Pixar. It also set the record for the best global opening for an animated film, bringing in $295 million overseas.
From a critical perspective, it’s not lagging behind: hailed as a masterpiece, it has received a rating of 4.1 out of 5 from AlloCiné viewers.
Iconic voices, old and new
In the original version, Amy Poehler once again lent her voice to Joy, and Charlotte Le Bon did so for the French version. The film, directed by Kelsey Mann from a script by Meg LeFauve and Dave Holstein, follows Riley (voiced by Kensington Tallman in English and Clara Poincaré in French) and the emotions inside her head.
Other returning actors include Phyllis Smith/Marilou Berry (Sadness), Lewis Black/Gilles Lelouche (Anger), Diane Lane/Françoise Cadol (Mom), and Kyle MacLachlan/Alexis Victor (Dad). While the voices of Disgust and Fear have been changed in the original version, from Mindy Kaling to Liza Lapira and from Bill Hader to Tony Hale respectively, in the French version, they are still voiced by Mélanie Laurent and Pierre Niney.
Anxiety, Envy, and Embarrassment are new additions, respectively voiced by Maya Hawke/Dorothée Pousséo, Ayo Edebiri/Kaycie Chase, and Paul Walter Hauser/Maxime Hoareau. Also joining the cast is Boredom, voiced by Adèle Exarchopoulos in both English and French.
Inside Out 2 is now playing in your nearest theater. The first film is available for rewatching on Disney+.
