Netflix’s Next Big Hit After Stranger Things: Cult Classic Series Adaptation Coming Soon!

The final season of “Stranger Things” is quickly approaching, yet Netflix has its sights set on the future with upcoming projects, including the reboot of a beloved series that will share the same vibe as the successful science-fiction show.

As the final season of Stranger Things, expected to arrive on Netflix by the end of the year, signals the end of an era, the platform is already looking to the future with new ventures. Some of these projects will undoubtedly share the same tone.

This is true for an unexpected reboot announced a year ago about the most famous dog in pop culture, who has been around for 56 years! Created by Iwao Takamoto, Joe Ruby, and Ken Spears for Hanna-Barbera Studios, Scooby-Doo is a talking canine who has been the hero of several animated series and TV films since 1969.

Along with his Scooby-gang, composed of Shaggy, Daphne, Velma, and Fred, this super dog investigates numerous fantastical mysteries in various animated adventures.

Scooby-Doo also had a live-action adaptation in the early 2000s with two films, Scooby-Doo and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, featuring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr., Matthew Lillard, and Linda Cardellini.

The new Scooby-Doo version on Netflix will be similar to “Stranger Things”!

A few months ago, Netflix officially announced it would be taking on this universe for a new live-action adaptation by sharing a photo of the script for the first episode of the officially ordered series.

TVLine revealed that this series, in development since April 2024 by Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg (Cowboy Bebop) and produced by Greg Berlanti (The Flash, You, Arrow, Riverdale), will be a “modern reinterpretation of the iconic group of teenage detectives and their very special dog”, composed of eight episodes.

This new live-action Scooby-Doo series already has an official synopsis: “During their last summer at camp, Shaggy and Daphne, old friends, find themselves entangled in a haunting mystery surrounding a solitary and lost Great Dane puppy, who may have witnessed a supernatural murder.

With Velma, a pragmatic and scientific city girl, and Freddy, a strange but oh-so-handsome newcomer, they embark on solving the case that leads them each into a frightening nightmare threatening to reveal all their secrets.”

We know a bit more about the tone of this series thanks to information from What’s on Netflix. Indeed, it would take inspiration from one of Netflix’s most popular science-fiction series. The site claims that the creative team aims to replicate the tone of Stranger Things.

Furthermore, the casting for the main characters is open to young actors aged 14 to 17, indicating that we will see more teenage versions of Fred, Daphne, Scooby, Shaggy, and Velma, for the first time in live-action. According to rumors, the production of the series will begin in the first quarter of 2026.
