Singer Tanya Trotter of War and Treaty fame has revealed that the much-anticipated “Sister Act 3” now has a completed script.
In an interview with ET, Trotter affirmed that a fully written screenplay for the film is now in existence, nearly three decades since “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit” was released. While she couldn’t definitively say whether she’ll have a part in the upcoming film, Trotter acknowledged she would find it hard to turn down an opportunity to work with Whoopi Goldberg.
“Anything that involves Whoopi Goldberg, because she is a legend, an icon, my mentor, and hero – yes, I would emphatically say yes,” said Trotter, speaking about the star of the “Sister Act” series.
Last week, Trotter and Goldberg reconnected on “The View” with a considerable number of their former co-stars from the movie to commemorate the 30th anniversary of “Sister Act 2.”
Goldberg, dressed as Sister Mary Clarence and now 68, led a choir comprising of adult “Sister Act 2” child actors in a rendition of “Oh Happy Day.” The group also performed “Joyful, Joyful,” during which Trotter sang the parts originally performed by Lauryn Hill’s character, Rita Watson. Hill was not present at the reunion.
Post the performance of “Joyful, Joyful,” a visibly moved Goldberg expressed her emotions through tears and shared individual embraces with several choir members.
Post “Sister Act 2,” Trotter’s career took a positive turn. In the film, she performed “His Eye Is on the Sparrow” alongside Hill. A year later, under her maiden name Tanya Blount, she released her first album, “Natural Thing.”
It wasn’t until 2016 that she produced her next album, “Love Affair,” alongside her spouse, Michael Trotter. The pair then began their joint music venture, the War and Treaty, which led to two Grammy nominations in late 2023 for their third album and first major-label release, “Lover’s Game.”
