After a succession of performances on his Prehab tour, Pete Davidson is stepping away from the limelight.
The former “Saturday Night Live” star recently enrolled in a wellness center for mental health care, as reported by People on Wednesday.
A source close to Davidson told the media outlet, mental health has “consistently been a priority” for him. They added that the comedian has dedicated the last year to sobriety, a topic often brought up in his stand-up routines.
“I just left rehab, folks,” Davidson announced in September at a show featuring fellow comedian John Mulaney and political commentator Jon Stewart. “I’m sporting that post-rehab glow. Lucky number seven!”
The revelation of Davidson’s latest wellness center visit comes as performance venues in Florida and New Jersey disclosed that the comedian’s impending shows there have been called off due to “calendar conflicts.”
Davidson’s representatives did not immediately respond to The Times’ request for a statement on Wednesday.
Last summer, Davidson sought treatment for issues connected to post-traumatic stress disorder and borderline personality disorder, according to People. A source revealed to the publication at the time, “Pete frequently admits himself into rehab to address these concerns. His loved ones have been supportive throughout this period.”
In a 2018 conversation with Variety, the star of “Bodies Bodies Bodies” confessed that he had “regularly visited mental health institutions” since the age of 9 — but medication had helped him regain balance.
“The past few years have been quite challenging for me,” he admitted. “I enrolled in several mental health courses and devoted a great deal of time to improve my well-being.”
Last year, Davidson faced charges of reckless driving after he drove a car into a house in Beverly Hills. The Los Angeles Superior Court subsequently mandated him to participate in an 18-month diversion program, which demanded 50 hours of community service.
The mandatory 50 hours were served at New York City’s Lenox Hill Neurosurgery, where his sister is employed as a physician assistant, as reported by the Daily Mail.
Davidson completed the program ahead of time, and on July 18, his misdemeanor charge was dismissed, as reported by Rolling Stone.
“Cheers, I suppose,” he quipped at his July 20 performance in Atlantic City, N.J., a spectator told the Daily Mail. “I messed up. It’s not really a cause for celebration.”
Late in the performance, Davidson shared with the audience that despite giving up “coke and ketamine,” he still indulges in marijuana: “I’m hanging on a little longer.”
