John Krasinski’s crowning as People’s Sexiest Man Alive on Tuesday was marked by a festive cover story, a dazzling photo session, and an expectation for additional home responsibilities.
The 45-year-old star from “The Office” and the lead actor in “Jack Ryan” humorously suggested that his wife and “A Quiet Place” co-star Emily Blunt has plans to ensure his new title doesn’t go to his head. This means joining a list of past honorees that includes Patrick Dempsey, Chris Evans, Michael B. Jordan, Brad Pitt, and Tom Cruise. “It’s probably going to result in more household chores for me,” Krasinski quipped in his cover story.
“Once this is published, she’ll say, ‘Okay, that means you need to really show your worth at home,'” he continued.
Krasinski and the star of “The Devil Wears Prada” tied the knot in July 2010 and are parents to two young daughters. The celebrity couple, while often engaging in playful banter about their relationship, have been open about their marriage, with Krasinski admitting to the magazine how “fortunate” he is. He also described evolving and maturing together with the Oscar-nominated “Oppenheimer” actress as a “beautiful experience”.
Apart from the extra household duties, Krasinski mentioned that Blunt had humorously suggested another way to commemorate his new honor: by covering the walls of their Brooklyn residence with his magazine cover.
“Our kids will be thrilled about it, it won’t be strange at all,” he jokingly said.
But Blunt wasn’t the only one teasing Krasinski about his recognition. Reactions to the latest Sexiest Man Alive announcement flooded social media. Several followers used a well-known joke from “The Office” to applaud Krasinski — sharing images of actor Randall Park instead of the “If” director. In the sitcom, Krasinski’s character, Jim, pranks his colleague Dwight (played by Rainn Wilson) by hiring an actor (Park) to impersonate him.
For some netizens, Krasinski’s award sparked controversy. While one supporter tweeted that it was “high time he received this acknowledgement,” another commented that the decision was “another heartbreaking Tuesday evening in November,” possibly alluding to the 2024 election results. On Instagram, admirers hailed the “absolutely HANDSOME” actor, while others expressed disappointment that their preferred stars, such as Pedro Pascal and Glen Powell, were not chosen.
Initially, Krasinski, like some doubters, thought his selection was a prank.
“I was totally dumbfounded, actually. I was completely thoughtless,” he confessed to the magazine. “Apart from the possibility that I was being pranked. I don’t wake up thinking, ‘Is today the day I’m going to be named Sexiest Man Alive?’ But it turned out to be the day you guys did it. You’ve certainly set high standards for me.”
