The science-fiction series “The Three-Body Problem,” helmed by David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo, is set for a conclusive ending.
Netflix’s renewal of “The Three-Body Problem” came with the assurance of a proper conclusion, even though the specifics were somewhat vague. The San-Ti might take 400 years to reach Earth, but thankfully, fans won’t need to wait that long to watch the next episodes.
On Friday, May 31, during the official panel for “The Three-Body Problem” at a Netflix event in Los Angeles, executive producers, showrunners, and writers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss (Game of Thrones) and Alexander Woo (The Terror, True Blood) confirmed that the sci-fi drama would return for seasons 2 and 3!
A Real Conclusion
Benioff, Weiss, and Woo expressed their eagerness to finish the story they’ve envisioned. D.B. Weiss stated, “We’ve incorporated a lot of what we loved from Cixin Liu’s novels in season 1, but the vast majority of why we wanted to make this series lies in season 2“. He added, “We’ve always aimed to go to the last page of the third book, and it’s really, really exciting for us to be able to do that.”
The series’ return was first announced during Netflix’s presentation at the Upfront – an event where future line-ups are presented to ad space buyers – in New York on May 15. Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s content director, confirmed the news. At the time, the executive producers shared a statement saying, “Ever since we read the last page of Cixin Liu’s magnificent trilogy, we’ve hoped to take the audience to the end of the universe with us. Here we go!“
Peter Friedlander, Netflix’s Vice President of Scripted Series (USA and Canada), added: “The extraordinary Three-Body Problem, brought to life by the skilled hands of Benioff, Weiss, and Woo, will reach unprecedented heights as they tackle the rest of the breathtaking journey through Death’s End (the third book that concludes the trilogy, editor’s note). Their brilliant vision as storytellers is matched only by their incredible partnership, and just like the fans, we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us.“
However, Netflix hasn’t yet specified when the series will return.
