A daring journalist bravely asked Jennifer Lopez about the circulating rumors of her supposed separation from Ben Affleck after two years of matrimony. The journalist, however, did not get the exclusive scoop they were hoping for.
Lopez rebuked the journalist for such a question, as evidenced in a video shared by TMZ. During a panel discussion in Mexico City on Wednesday, Lopez was promoting her latest Netflix sci-fi movie “Atlas” along with co-star Simu Liu and director Brad Peyton. When the panel was opened for questions from the audience, a journalist off-camera decided to question the multitalented Lopez about her alleged divorce from Affleck.
As the question was asked, some attendees voiced their disapproval. Liu was quick to intervene, stating, “OK, we’re not doing that.” Initially, Lopez showed her disdain for the question, but then decided to address the journalist directly.
“You should know better,” she responded, leaning into her seat.
Liu then requested, “Please, let’s not bring such energy into this room. Thank you.”
The rumors of a potential Bennifer split surfaced earlier in the month, as several tabloids, citing anonymous sources, claimed that the celebrity pair was experiencing marital troubles. Further speculation was sparked by Affleck’s absence at the 2024 Met Gala, where Lopez was a co-chair, and Lopez’s house-hunting trip with a long-term collaborator. Amidst the rumors, TMZ published photographs of Lopez and Affleck still adorning their wedding rings.
Neither Lopez nor Affleck’s representatives responded immediately to separate requests for comment from The Times on Thursday.
Lopez and Affleck, once engaged in the early 2000s, had famously called off their engagement. However, in 2021, the pair rekindled their relationship and tied the knot in 2022. Since then, Lopez’s love life has been a significant influence on her extravagant promotion of her album “This Is Me … Now,” a spiritual follow-up to her 2002 release, “This Is Me … Then.”
In addition to her new album, Lopez has also funded a musical film, a documentary about the creation of the film, and a tour set to begin in Orlando, Florida, on June 26. She is expected to perform in Southern California in July.
In February, Lopez shared the encouragement she received from her husband for her abstract film “This Is Me … Now: A Love Story,” in which she personally invested $20 million.
“He said, ‘You made a movie. For you. You made a great movie. You did it,’” Lopez recounted to Variety. “Frankly, whatever happens now doesn’t matter. That’s the biggest compliment I could ever receive.”
At present, both Lopez and Affleck are engaged in separate film projects. As Lopez is busy promoting “Atlas” and preparing for her upcoming tour, Affleck is reportedly shooting the sequel to “The Accountant” in Los Angeles.
