Though her character Jo March never walked down the aisle, Saoirse Ronan has indeed tied the knot. The Irish actress, known for her role in Greta Gerwig’s “Little Women,” recently got married in a very private setting.
Ronan, who boasts four Oscar nominations, wed her co-actor from “Mary Queen of Scots,” Jack Lowden, in Scotland the previous weekend. This news was reported by the Irish Independent, which referenced Scottish civil marriage records. At the time of this report, neither Ronan’s nor Lowden’s representatives had responded to The Times’ request for a confirmation.
The wedding was an intimate event for Ronan, 30, and Lowden, 34. Close friends of the couple attended the “secret ceremony” held at the Edinburgh Central Registrar’s Office. This marriage comes several months after rumors of their engagement started circling in October 2023.
The couple had previously worked together on the 2018 historical drama “Mary Queen of Scots,” directed by Josie Rourke. Ronan played the lead role, while Lowden played her cousin and second spouse, Henry Stewart, Lord Darnley. The film, which also featured Margot Robbie as Queen Elizabeth I, received two Oscar nominations for makeup and hairstyling and costume design.
Since the inception of their relationship, Ronan and Lowden have maintained a low profile, with the occasional couple photos appearing on Lowden’s Instagram account. The couple was seen spending quality time at the 2024 Glastonbury Festival, a month prior to their marriage.
Lowden, known for his work in Apple TV+’s drama “Slow Horses,” Steve McQueen’s “Small Axe” series, and Christopher Nolan’s “Dunkirk,” recently teamed up with Ronan in the drama “The Outrun.” This film is based on a memoir by journalist Amy Liptrot, and features Ronan in the lead role, with Lowden as a producer.
