Renowned actor Michael Madsen, famous for his roles in “Reservoir Dogs” and other Quentin Tarantino films, has recently initiated divorce proceedings from his wife of over two decades.
Stating irreconcilable differences as the primary cause for their separation, Madsen hints that there are deeper issues at play.
Coming in the wake of a recent arrest in Malibu related to a domestic disturbance a month ago, the divorce filing is not entirely unexpected. Despite his arrest, the Los Angeles County District Attorney decided not to press charges due to a lack of substantial evidence.
The divorce petition was officially filed in the L.A. County Superior Court on Wednesday. In it, Madsen reveals that he and his wife, DeAnna Madsen, separated earlier this year, shortly after the tragic suicide of their son Hudson. The couple originally tied the knot on April 15, 1996.
According to Madsen, the vague and general term ‘irreconcilable differences’ does not truly capture the essence of their marital issues. He states in a signed statement included in the divorce filing, “I have been separated from Respondent since my son’s death by suicide on 1/25/22. I believe Respondent drove him to this by her neglect, drinking and alcoholism.”
Madsen, also known for his roles in “Donnie Brasco” and “Thelma & Louise”, further stated that DeAnna, mother of his two other adult children, had a substantial role in exacerbating his personal problems.
Describing his marital experience as abusive, co-dependent, and toxic, Madsen declares, “I am a victim in an abusive, co-dependent, and toxic relationship that culminated in the Respondent breaking into my residence and having me wrongfully arrested for DV. Once the cell bars close on you, it’s the final curtain on any marriage or relationship, and mine was no exception.”
Perry C. Wander, Madsen’s attorney who also represented him in the domestic violence case, released a statement to The Times. He suggested that the marriage began to crumble following their son’s death and reached a breaking point with Madsen’s wrongful arrest for domestic violence when his estranged wife allegedly broke into his residence. Madsen, cleared of all charges, has applied for a temporary restraining order against DeAnna.
Wander adds, “Michael is looking forward to spending quality time with his children and pursuing acting and writing poetry … now that he is free from a toxic, abusive marriage.”
DeAnna Madsen, however, denies the allegations of breaking into the family residence and declined to comment when approached by The Times.
Following Madsen’s arrest last month, DeAnna had stated that she and their children were doing their best to support him.
