Viola Davis to be Honored at 2025 Golden Globes
Viola Davis, the illustrious EGOT winner, has been chosen as the recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes 2025. This prestigious career award is set to be presented at a grand dinner at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, scheduled for January 3.
Joining Davis will be the recipient of the Carol Burnett Award, which recognizes exceptional television contributions, yet to be revealed. This marks the first time the awards organization has segregated the awards into a separate occasion. However, these awardees will be recognized during the primary Globes event, which will be broadcasted on CBS and Paramount+ on January 5.
Davis’s Notable Works and Achievements
The 2017 Oscar winner, Davis, clinched the award with her remarkable performance as a devoted wife alongside Denzel Washington in the movie version of August Wilson’s “Fences.” She has also received Oscar nods for her roles in “The Help,” “Doubt,” and most notably, “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” another adaptation of Wilson’s work.
In 2015, Davis broke new ground as the first Black woman to win an Emmy for the lead actress in a drama series for her role in “How to Get Away with Murder.” Her accolades also include two Tony Awards; one for “Fences” and the other for her portrayal of Tonya in “King Hedley II.” Davis added a Grammy to her collection in 2023 for her narration of her memoir, “Finding Me.”
Personal Life
Davis has been happily married to Julius Tennon since 2003.
In a 2022 interview with The Times, Davis shared her thoughts on success, “Being on top is a grind,” she said. “Everyone aspires to be at the pinnacle. That’s the ultimate goal. ‘I want to be Cate Blanchett. I want to be Meryl Streep.’ It requires sacrifice. If you ask me about my life, I would say it revolves around ‘[Daughter] Genesis, Julius, my mom.’ They are my life force.”
