The post-apocalyptic series “Fallout”, which debuted on Prime Video on April 11, has been creating a buzz amongst subscribers and beyond.
Update April 22 : According to rankings published by GamesIndustry.biz, Fallout 4 tops the weekly European top 10, which includes physical and digital game sales at retail stores and on Steam, Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and Nintendo Eshop. This equates to a 7,500% sales increase for Fallout 4, outperforming titles such as Helldivers 2, EA Sports FC 24, and Grand Theft Auto 5. 69% of these sales were made on PC, with many players diving into the game following the critical success of the Fallout TV adaptation.
From the moment it launched on Prime Video, the Fallout series has been met with almost unanimous acclaim from critics and audiences alike. In less than a week, the series seems to have had a significant impact on the popularity of the franchise that spawned it.
On X (formerly known as Twitter), SteamDB (a database for the Steam platform) reports that a number of games from the Fallout franchise have seen a steep rise in concurrent players on Steam following its release, with some even tripling their usual numbers.
“Fallout has more than doubled its concurrent players on Steam with the release of the Fallout TV series.“
A Surge in Popularity
Fallout 4 saw the largest increase – from weekend peaks of about 20,000 to 24,000 over the past six months to 83,491 last Sunday. Fallout 76 also experienced a spike in numbers, going from 13,000 players to 39,455 on Sunday, smashing its all-time concurrent player record.
Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 3 also experienced more than a tripling of their numbers. Bethesda, the games’ publisher, cleverly triggered a sale of its Fallout games with the arrival of the series, leading to a significant surge in franchise title sales.
Bethesda also recently announced that it will release a next-generation update for Fallout 4 on April 25, featuring 60 fps performance modes on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, along with additional enhancements. New quests will also be added.
Meanwhile, the series is set to continue with a second season, with production shifting from New York and Utah to California due to a very beneficial tax credit.
The first season of Fallout is currently available on Prime Video.
