Christopher Nolan’s Brother Created Real-Life Barbenheimer Series – Unbelievable!

Think the “Fallout” universe isn’t for you? What if we told you the fresh Prime Video series is a blend of “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer”?

Recently launched on Prime Video, Fallout not only climbed to the top of the Prime Video top 10 in France, but its reception has been outstanding. With an average viewer rating of 4.3 out of 5, this new sci-fi series immediately won everyone over!

As a reminder, Fallout is set in a post-apocalyptic world directly adapted from the video games of the same name. It’s a world full of references, but one in which a viewer unfamiliar with the games can quickly get their bearings.

A Completely Original Storyline

Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, known as the creators of Westworld and serving as producers for this series, have crafted an entirely original story that takes place after Fallout 4. In other words, the series doesn’t cover the events of the video game, but gamers will find clear nods and references.

With a dash of humor and darkness, the series appeals to both fans of the video game saga and viewers discovering this post-apocalyptic world for the first time. Something The Last Of Us managed to do effectively.

The New Barbenheimer

In an interview with the Hindustan Times a few days before the series launch, Jonathan Nolan was optimistic about the series’ reception, even going so far as to say it incorporates two key elements from last year’s biggest productions. He was of course referring to the Barbenheimer phenomenon:

Last year, I joked with my brother [Christopher Nolan, ed] that I might have made Barbenheimer, the series. Because there’s a bit of everything in it. This also struck me when I saw the poster we made, where Lucy is drinking a bottle of Nuka Cola

Amazon MGM Studios

In the plot, the “Barbie” of Fallout is of course Lucy, played by actress Ella Purnell who has spent her entire life in an underground shelter. An idealist who steps out of her safe haven to discover devastation all around her.

On the Oppenheimer side, Fallout takes place 200 years after a nuclear apocalypse, where the wealthiest people took refuge in these famous underground shelters to avoid radiation and other dangers, including survivors living in the wild.

Fallout is currently available on Prime Video
