Armie Hammer Forced to Sell Beloved Truck Due to Sky-high L.A. Gas Prices!

Armie Hammer, the actor embroiled in sexual assault allegations and a bizarre cannibalism scandal, has sold his cherished pickup truck in what appears to be the latest repercussion of the scandals that have decimated his once-thriving film career.

The star of “The Social Network” and “Call Me by Your Name” shared a video on Tuesday of him selling his four-door pickup at CarMax, a well-known used car retailer. Hammer disclosed that he has moved to a new apartment in Los Angeles but is unable to afford fuel for his vehicle. As a result, the great-grandson of oil magnate Armand Hammer swapped his truck for a compact, hybrid vehicle, estimating his monthly fuel expense to be around $10.

He tried to find a silver lining in the situation, reasoning, “Parking will be easier and the cost of fuel will be less.”

Hammer, who was a part of the cast for “Death on the Nile”, saw his career implode in 2021 due to a host of sexual abuse and assault allegations made against him. Despite repeatedly denying any non-consensual sexual activities, he recently dismissed gossip about his alleged cannibalistic tendencies with a laugh. Interestingly, he expressed gratitude for the accusations leading to the “death” of his career.

Selling his car seems to be his newest effort to rebuild his life after the fallout.

In the Instagram video posted on Tuesday, Hammer stated, “I’ve been back in L.A. for a few weeks now.” The video featured what appeared to be a GMC Sierra Denali in the parking lot of CarMax.

He reminisced, “This is my truck. I bought this as a Christmas gift to myself back in 2017. I’ve always been fond of pickup trucks and I have adored this one. I’ve used it for camping and cross-country road trips several times.”

He added, “I took it on one last road trip, to CarMax. This isn’t a promotional ad for CarMax. It’s because I’m selling my truck.”

CarMax clarified on Wednesday that they “did not financially compensate or collaborate with Mr. Hammer on this content.”

A CarMax spokesperson, Jennifer Bartusiak, stated to The Times, “Out of respect for his privacy, we won’t share any specifics related to the transaction.”

Hammer has publicly stated that he won’t seek financial assistance from his affluent family and explained that he sold the truck due to financial constraints. Since returning to Los Angeles, he estimated that he spent $400 to $500 on gas and couldn’t sustain the expense.

He linked the sale of his truck to his 38th birthday, viewing it as a fresh start for him amidst the controversies.

In the video, he said, “I will be starting my birthday in a new car in a new apartment in a new life in Los Angeles.” However, he also expressed sadness about selling his truck, humorously lamenting that he was “abandoning my baby.” He added that his two kids “aren’t happy” about it because of the memories associated with the vehicle.

Hammer continues to financially support his children with his ex-wife Elizabeth Chambers, who divorced him in 2023. The New York Post reported that he was ordered to pay $1,500 per month in child support as he “does not have the income” to pay more. To make ends meet, Hammer reportedly took a job selling timeshares in the Cayman Islands in 2022.
