Before stepping into the shoes of Henry Cavill as the lead in “The Witcher,” Liam Hemsworth cut his acting teeth in an iconic early 2000s TV series.
Liam Hemsworth, who stars in Season 4 of “The Witcher,” first gained recognition in the early 2010s through the “Hunger Games” franchise. Despite roles in high-profile films like “Expendables 2” and “Independence Day: Resurgence,” the younger brother of Chris Hemsworth (Thor) has struggled to truly launch his career.
A 20-year career leading to a defining role?
The Netflix series could provide him with the breakthrough role he’s been seeking to land more prominent parts in major productions. However, the Australian actor will need to eclipse the memory of his predecessor, Henry Cavill, whose portrayal in the first three seasons of “The Witcher” has left a lasting impression.
At just 35 years old, Liam Hemsworth will celebrate two decades in the industry in 2027. Many believe his first on-screen role was in the movie “The Last Song,” which he starred in alongside his former partner, Miley Cyrus. This romantic comedy was indeed his first cinematic hit and likely helped him secure a leading role in “Hunger Games.”
A debut role that’s largely forgotten
However, Hemsworth’s acting career actually began on TV. In 2007, he landed a minor role in the Australian series “McLeod’s Daughters.” This cult show, which ran from 2001 to 2009 (spanning eight seasons), follows the story of two half-sisters who inherit a nearly bankrupt ranch after twenty years apart.
Hemsworth only appeared in one episode of the later seasons, playing a character named Damon. The show’s first three seasons are currently available on Prime Video (so Hemsworth’s episode is not featured on the platform).
Nine Network
While this role didn’t exactly make a splash, it did provide Hemsworth with his first acting opportunity, nearly two decades before he would take on the role of Geralt of Rivia in the fourth season of “The Witcher,” now available on Netflix.
