After months of speculation, Netflix has finally revealed the actor who will be playing the role of Portgas D. Ace in the live-action series “One Piece”.
Over the past few months, Netflix has been unveiling the cast members who will be joining the second season of the live-action One Piece series. These include Doctor Kureha (Katey Sagal), Miss All Sunday (Lera Abova), Miss Wednesday (Charithra Chandran), and Mr. 0 (Joe Manganiello).
No Surprise Here
Although it was confirmed quite some time ago that Portgas D. Ace would be featured in the upcoming episodes, Netflix had yet to disclose the actor who would be portraying him. That’s no longer the case, as it was revealed in a video posted on Netflix’s social media and the series’ official account.
As many expected, Xolo Maridueña was chosen to bring the character, one of the manga’s most beloved figures, to life. For months, photos of the former Cobra Kai star with Iñaki Godoy, who plays Luffy, led fans to believe that Maridueña would be playing Ace in the Netflix series’ continuation.
Despite some unconvincing denials, Xolo Maridueña was unable to quell the rumors. And for good reason, as it was ultimately announced that he would indeed be playing Ace in the upcoming seasons of One Piece. The character is not expected to appear in season 2 (or possibly only in a cameo), but from season 3 onwards, which is set to begin filming soon.
Netflix Has Found the Perfect Actor to Play Ace, Fans Say
The initial reactions to the casting announcement were overwhelmingly positive. It seems that no fan of the series could have imagined anyone other than Xolo Maridueña playing Ace in this live-action adaptation. Eiichiro Oda, the creator of the manga, must have approved of the choice, as he personally signs off on the casting of the series’ main characters.
One Piece is an adaptation of the popular manga by Eiichiro Oda. The story follows the adventures of a pirate crew led by Monkey D. Luffy, a young man with elastic powers. Together, they set off in search of One Piece, the hidden treasure of the legendary Gol D. Roger. Whoever finds it will be declared the new Pirate King!
The second season of One Piece will be available exclusively on Netflix starting March 10.
