Kevin Costner Drops Shocking One-Week Ultimatum on Yellowstone’s Creator!

The possibility of Kevin Costner returning to the Western series “Yellowstone” is becoming increasingly uncertain, as filming for the final episodes commenced several weeks ago…

For several months now, American media outlets have been reporting conflicts between Kevin Costner and Yellowstone’s creator, Taylor Sheridan. Artistic differences have been cited, as well as scheduling conflicts due to the filming of the Western epic Horizon: An American Saga, the first part of which was premiered by Kevin Costner at the latest Cannes Film Festival.

Despite this, Kevin Costner has publicly expressed his intention to return to the series. On the other hand, Yellowstone’s creator, Taylor Sheridan, has not responded. Worse still, he has chosen to resume filming for the show’s final season without Kevin Costner, who is currently unavailable due to filming the third installment of his saga.

Kevin Costner did everything he could to resolve the situation!

At the Cannes Film Festival, the actor/director clarified that his absence from Yellowstone was not his doing, as the filming schedule for his Western films was coordinated with the initial production timetable for the series.

However, the delay in filming due to a lag in the writing of the final episodes resulted in a scheduling conflict between the actor playing John Dutton and the production team.

In an interview with GQ, Kevin Costner explained that he issued an ultimatum to Taylor Sheridan. Just days before the start of filming for the third installment of his Horizon film, the 69-year-old actor gave the writer one week to “do whatever he wants”, even if it meant killing off his character, despite playing a central role in the series’ plot.

Once this deadline passed, it was no longer possible for Kevin Costner to appear in the final season of Yellowstone. Sadly, it looks like the final episodes will be filmed without him. The question now is how they will handle the absence of John Dutton, who we last saw as the Governor of Montana.

Yellowstone: A sequel is already in the works!

No doubt, fans would not accept the character’s departure without a proper farewell. Perhaps a prison sentence might explain John Dutton’s (temporary?) absence for the show’s return? We’ll find out by the end of the year, when the final episodes of Yellowstone’s last season are broadcast.

It’s also worth noting that a sequel – currently titled 2024 – is in the pipeline. While characters from Yellowstone may make appearances in this new series, the spin-off will primarily focus on a brand new character that could potentially be played by Matthew McConaughey. A new prequel titled 1944 has also been green-lit by Paramount+, along with a second season for the 1923 series.
