Leonardo DiCaprio’s Biggest Regret: Refusing This ’90s Classic Movie 28 Years Ago!

Despite his near-perfect career, Leonardo DiCaprio still harbors some regrets, like missing out on a role in a cult classic film, now available on HBO Max.

The release of the movie “One Battle After Another” this year marked the first-ever partnership between Leonardo DiCaprio and director Paul Thomas Anderson. Despite being giants in American cinema, they had never worked together before, but they almost crossed paths thirty years ago!

A tough decision, but probably the right one

During the movie’s promotion, Leonardo DiCaprio expressed his disappointment again at not being able to star in Boogie Nights in 1997. Initially considered for a role in this film about the 1970s adult film industry, the American actor chose to decline the offer to work on James Cameron’s Titanic instead.

“I’m a big fan of Paul Thomas Anderson, but when I first met him for the role, I wasn’t familiar with his work. Now, I love this film,” he told ShowbizSpy in 2010. Anderson, on his part, has said that he understands DiCaprio’s decision and has never held it against him.

Boogie Nights is also the biggest regret of the actor who replaced DiCaprio!

The role of Dirk Diggler – the main character in Boogie Nights, inspired by real-life adult film actor John C. Holmes – eventually went to Mark Wahlberg. Ironically, Wahlberg later said he regretted being in the movie due to his religious beliefs.

It took nearly 30 years for Leonardo DiCaprio to finally collaborate with Paul Thomas Anderson. “One Battle After Another,” which was released on September 24, is already being touted as a top contender for the upcoming Oscars. As for Boogie Nights, it’s now available on HBO Max.
