Stranger Things: Shocking Fan Theory Hints at Eddie’s Explosive Return in Season 5!

As the fifth season of Stranger Things is set to return on Netflix in a few days, it’s the perfect time to revisit a fascinating fan theory surrounding the character of Eddie (Joseph Quinn).

Could Eddie, just like Barb and Billy, be making a return from the dead in the fifth season of Stranger Things?

Within a few episodes, this character had won the hearts of Stranger Things fans. In season 4, the writers introduced this emo character, a part-time dealer, and a big fan of Dungeons and Dragons. Played by rising Hollywood star, Joseph Quinn, he made his mark by sacrificing himself in the final episode.

To allow Dustin to escape, Eddie decides to stay and confront the demo-bat creatures attacking them. He climbs on top of his caravan to repel them. However, against the swarm of flying creatures, the high school student ends up on the ground.

While we don’t see him die explicitly, his friend visits his grave at the end of episode 9, implying that he indeed lost his life (even though some fans are still hoping for his return).

An Ominous Sign

Whether he is indeed deceased or still alive in the Upside Down, the writers of Stranger Things had initially planned to make Eddie a martyr, as suggested by this hidden clue from the start of season 4.

We are in episode 1, during Eddie’s second appearance. He is then facing Chrissy (Grace Van Dien) in the woods. If you pause at 47 minutes and 39 seconds, you can see a bat tattoo appearing on the high school student’s arm. A deliberately chosen design since he will ironically die because of them a few days later.

Fan Theory

If this tattoo was intentionally placed there, there might be another reason. According to some fans, it could be a nod to a well-known character in Dungeons and Dragons lore: Kas the Bloody Handed. This character eventually betrays Vecna and turns against him.

While Eddie never dabbled in the dark side, there’s one aspect that might link him to Kas: in the game, this character becomes… a vampire. If you connect this with the bats attacking him, one can understand the theory that he’s not really dead and that he’ll return in season 5 in a different form. Even though the showrunners have recently debunked this theory, we think that anything is possible and they’re probably just keeping us in suspense…

Stranger Things season 5 starts on November 27 on Netflix.
