The daughter of Hollywood star Tom Cruise, Suri, has started using a different surname.
During her recent high school graduation from LaGuardia High School in New York City, the 18-year-old chose to introduce herself as “Suri Noelle” instead of Suri Cruise. This new surname was also used when she took part in a school rendition of the popular musical “Head Over Heels” earlier in the year. Her mother, Katie Holmes, has Noelle as her middle name.
The star of “Risky Business” was notably absent from Suri’s graduation celebrations, instead choosing to spend his Saturday with a host of celebrities at Taylor Swift’s Eras tour in London. Cruise is currently in London filming the latest “Mission: Impossible” sequel.
The lack of Cruise’s presence at the graduation did not appear to dampen the spirits of Holmes and Suri. The mother and daughter were spotted laughing and snapping photos together outside of the graduation venue, clearly proud of Suri’s accomplishment.
Suri was born in 2006, just prior to her parents’ wedding. The couple, often referred to as TomKat, remained together until 2012 when Holmes initiated divorce proceedings. Cruise faced widespread rumors of neglecting Suri following the divorce. In a 2013 lawsuit against Life & Style and In Touch publisher Bauer Publishing, Cruise vehemently denied these claims, stating, “The allegation that I ‘abandoned’ Suri after my divorce is blatantly untrue. I have not excluded Suri from any aspect of my life, whether that be physically, emotionally, financially or otherwise.”
Cruise went on to state that he and Suri, who was then only 6, “spoke on the phone almost every day” and that he “routinely requested and received updates about her friends and school life.”
In addition to Suri, Cruise has two other children, Bella, 31, and Connor, 29, whom he adopted with his ex-wife Nicole Kidman. Last year, he was seen in public with Bella and Connor, reportedly for the first time in 15 years.
