Patrick Dempsey Shocks Fans: From Beloved ‘Dr. McDreamy’ to Unexpected New Role!

The “Grey’s Anatomy” star is joining the cast of “Dexter: Original Sin”, a prequel to the renowned 2000s series.

Patrick Dempsey, globally famous for his role as Dr. McDreamy in Grey’s Anatomy, is set to join the cast of Dexter: Original Sin. This prequel to the original Dexter series, which debuted in 2006 and starred Michael C. Hall as a serial killer, adds a new dimension to Dempsey’s acting career.

In this endeavor, Dempsey will portray Aaron Spencer, captain of the Miami Metro Homicide, a branch of the Miami police department. Filming began in early June and is expected to continue until November.

He joins a cast that includes Patrick Gibson, who is reprising the role of Dexter, Molly Brown, James Martinez, Christina Milian, Alex Shimizu, and Reno Wilson.

What is Dexter: Original Sin about?

The plot of Dexter: Original Sin is set in 1991, 15 years before the events of the original series. The prequel follows Dexter in his college years as he becomes the well-known serial killer. “When his thirst for blood can no longer be ignored, Dexter must learn to master his inner darkness“, the synopsis reveals.

The story will explore how his father, played by Christian Slater, helps him find and kill dangerous individuals without attracting the attention of law enforcement.

In 2021, Showtime launched Dexter: New Blood, a sequel to the series finale of the eighth season. Original Sin is thus the second project set in the Dexter universe following the end of the original series.
