Yellowstone New Series Renamed Weeks Before Premiere — Shocking New Title Revealed!

The new Yellowstone spin-off set to arrive in March has once again changed its official title.

With its premiere only weeks away, the newest Yellowstone spin-off has already gone through another title change. Formerly known as Y: Marshals, the series centered on Kayce Dutton (played by Luke Grimes) will now simply be called Marshals. It’s still unclear whether that shortened name will be used in France as well (the current French title is Marshals: A Yellowstone Story).

How will the series connect to Yellowstone?

Remember, this show is one of three Yellowstone-related series slated for release this year. The other two are The Dutton Ranch (another working title that may not be final), which focuses on Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) and Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly), and The Madison, an entirely new story led by Michelle Pfeiffer.

Unités de maintien de l'ordre en tenue tactique dans un paysage de l'Ouest
Marshals se présente comme une histoire policière ancrée dans l’Ouest.

Marshals is being billed as a direct continuation of Yellowstone. After the family ranch was sold, the youngest Dutton gained a fresh slice of independence. Now serving in law enforcement, he heads a tactical unit hunting down some of Montana’s most dangerous criminals. The spin-off leans more heavily into action and will bring back several familiar faces from the original series.

Why did the show change its title?

Producers haven’t given a definitive reason for the renaming, which has sparked plenty of speculation among U.S. outlets. Dropping the “Y” that tied the title explicitly to Yellowstone might be intended to give the new series its own identity. It’s also possible that the storyline no longer needs that explicit link, given Kayce’s longtime desire to break away from family obligations — and from his fraught relationship with his father, John Dutton.

Or maybe the choice was simply pragmatic: Marshals is easier to say than “Y” (pronounced “why”) : Marshals. Whatever the motive, the title change is unlikely to significantly alter viewers’ expectations for the show, which is set to debut exclusively on Paramount+ in March.
