This man is Darren Star. As a prolific screenwriter and producer for television, this American is responsible for a number of hits that feature colorful and quirky characters that we either love or love to hate.

In 2015, Darren Star returned to the spotlight with Younger, a series adapted from the eponymous novel by Pamela Redmond Satran. It encompasses all the elements he loves: a refreshing heroine, a significant societal topic (that of ageism), a dash of comedy, a hint of the queer scene, and more.

The show follows a single mother from New Jersey who decides to lie about her age to increase her chances of re-entering the workforce. With a bit of luck and makeup, she successfully appears twenty years younger…

To find the actress who would play his main character, Star didn’t have to look far. He chose Sutton Foster, an actress and musical theater performer fairly well-known in the United States:

“When I met her, I was genuinely surprised that she was actually 40 years old. It was important for me to find an actress who was not around 35, but actually the age of the character.

She is believable as a 26-year-old woman on screen, she seems ageless. It’s not just about her looks, it’s also about the confidence she exudes.”

The rest of the Younger cast is equally impressive: those who grew up in the 90s watching the Disney Channel’s Lizzie McGuire would have recognized actress Hilary Duff, who plays Liza’s (Foster) best friend. Nico Tortorella (Scream 4), Debi Mazar (Entourage), and Miriam Shor (Sex and the City) round out this glamorous cast.
