Following his role in “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters,” Wyatt Russell will reprise his character in a freshly ordered prequel series by Apple TV.
The monsters of the MonsterVerse are thriving. Since the franchise’s inception in 2014 with the Godzilla movie, the business has been booming. In just over ten years, Godzilla, Kong, and the other large creatures in the bestiary have managed to generate no less than 2.5 billion dollars.
And the universe continues to expand. Apple TV has officially ordered a new prequel series focusing on Colonel Lee Shaw from Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, played by Wyatt Russell. The series will follow his early years. As a side note, Wyatt’s father – the well-known actor, Kurt Russell – plays the same character, but older in the parent series.
What we know about the new Monarch series
We learn from Deadline that Joby Harold (Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Obi-Wan Kenobi) will serve as the showrunner for this untitled new series. He will also oversee the entire MonsterVerse franchise for Apple TV, which will feature both new Titans and fan-favorites.
This new spin-off will follow the story of Colonel Lee Shaw, an American agent who, in 1984, led a covert mission behind enemy lines to prevent the Soviets from releasing a new Titan powerful enough to destroy the United States and shift the course of the Cold War.
Coincidentally, the first season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has just begun airing on Canal+. It’s worth noting that it is already fully available on Apple TV. Season 2 is set to premiere on the platform on the 27th of February.
