A cast member from the live-action series “One Piece” has hinted that Season 2 and 3 of the popular manga adaptation will be filmed concurrently.
While fans eagerly wait for the shooting of One Piece’s second season to begin, recent news might pique their interest. The Netflix series, based on Eiichiro Oda’s popular manga, unexpectedly but unquestionably became a hit in the summer of 2023. The show was renewed for a second season just two weeks after its premiere on the platform.
Despite its record-breaking budget of over $100 million for the first season, One Piece managed to break the curse of live-action adaptations of popular mangas. The adaptations of Dragonball Evolution, Death Note, and Cowboy Bebop by Netflix, for instance, still haunt the memory of many fans.

Season 2 Shooting to Begin Soon
A recent report indicated that One Piece was one of Netflix’s biggest successes in 2023. This would certainly bolster the platform’s confidence in its flagship program, especially as production for Season 2 is expected to begin shortly. However, there’s a possibility that One Piece may not stop at Season 2.
In an interview with the American fan site OPLA News, a cast member hinted that Netflix could secretly order a third season. Granted, Brashaad Mayweather only had a minor role in the first season (as one of the cooks at Baratie), but he stated that Seasons 2 and 3 would soon enter simultaneous production.
Season 3 Hasn’t Been Announced Yet
At this point, it’s important to approach this claim with caution. Firstly, renewal or cancellation of series is always officially announced on Netflix’s social media. While a second season was indeed announced, there has never been any mention of a third season by the platform’s representatives.
Also, there’s a chance that Brashaad Mayweather could have mixed up One Piece with the live-action series Avatar: The Last Airbender. This series, based on the iconic animated series, recently had two additional seasons ordered due to the young age of its main cast.
New Characters Are Set to Debut in the Series
Finally, some viewers are wondering if Season 2 will be shot in two parts. The number of episodes (eight) seems too few to cover the entire Arabasta arc, which is expected to introduce new key characters, including several iconic recruits of the Straw Hat Pirates.
One Piece, the best-selling manga of all time, follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, an aspiring pirate with elastic powers. Chasing the legendary treasure of Gol D. Roger, the young hero is about to embark on an extraordinary adventure through the seas filled with the most feared pirate crews.
The first season of the live-action series One Piece is now available on Netflix.
