In a fierce competition with Apple TV, Netflix has secured the rights to “Trigger Point”, an explosive thriller featuring Joel Edgerton and the director of “Rebel Ridge”.
Certain Hollywood projects ignite epic behind-the-scenes battles, and Trigger Point is one such project. This action thriller starring Joel Edgerton was recently scooped up by Netflix following a bidding war involving at least four platforms, reports Deadline. The show has been given an eight-episode order without a pilot, with the final showdown being between Netflix and Apple TV, both offering firm orders. However, Netflix emerged victorious.
A script that set Hollywood ablaze
The saga began last May when screenwriter Harrison Query (Heads of State) sold his script to A24 following a seven-buyer bidding war. The independent studio assigned development duties to producer Joe Hipps (Ozark) and director Jeremy Saulnier (Rebel Ridge, Green Room). Once Joel Edgerton was attached to the project and two scripts were completed, the package was put on the market. The result: at least four platforms scrambled to secure it.
The series follows a group of former Tier One special forces elites who monetize their skills in the organized crime world while operating behind a private security company. Their adversary: a determined FBI agent on their trail. Joel Edgerton will play Red, a former Tier One operator turned criminal.

A significant win for Netflix
This fall, Netflix has been stacking up victories in bidding wars. Following Black Hole (based on Charles Burns’ graphic novels) and Rabbit, Rabbit featuring Adam Driver in October, the platform continues to dominate the premium series market.
For A24, this marks the second firm order after a bidding war in just six weeks, following Discretion with Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning at Paramount+. Harrison Query, who will be the showrunner of Trigger Point, is also on a roll: his other script Code Black was sold to Amazon for a seven-figure sum with Jake Gyllenhaal, and Heads of State (with John Cena and Idris Elba) became the platform’s fourth most-watched film this summer.
Jeremy Saulnier is teaming up with Netflix again after the success of Rebel Ridge. The ideal recipe for a gripping thriller.
