The television series “All’s Fair,” now available on Disney+, is making a near-unprecedented splash in television history by becoming one of the lowest-rated series ever at launch.
The new series from creator Ryan Murphy, All’s Fair, started off with a shockingly low 0% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, setting new records. Despite being unanimously panned by Anglo-Saxon press, the series is paradoxically becoming a global phenomenon on social media, fueled by mockery and memes.
How are the team members reacting to this onslaught? We’ve gathered several public comments and it seems that the marketing adage “bad buzz is still buzz” has become their key principle.
Kim Kardashian’s Response
The main target of these attacks, influencer and businesswoman Kim Kardashian, who stars alongside Glenn Close, Naomi Watts, and Sarah Paulson, responded to the backlash with a post on Instagram that was full of irony: “Have you watched the most critically acclaimed series of the year!?!?!? All’s Fair is streaming now”
Accustomed to the harshness of social media, Kim Kardashian appears to have decided to ride the wave of controversy to better highlight the team’s work.
The Director’s Reaction
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, director Anthony Hemingway defended the influencer, praising her commitment and dedication. This was his response to those who, without even watching the series, were quick to question its legitimacy:
“I love Kim Kardashian, I just want to say that. She didn’t have as much experience as the other actors. She knew that from the outset, but she arrived with an open mind and the desire to give her best, and that’s the person I worked with every day. She’s an extraordinary person.”
“She’s always there for her children. […] She owns and runs several businesses. And not once did she not memorize her lines; not once did she not come prepared to assist her co-stars. […] We had a lot of fun working together.”
Hulu
Reflecting on his own filming experience, Anthony Hemingway also thanked creator Ryan Murphy for the creative freedom he was given on set: “It’s a real playground for artists […] I get to do what I love: create and imagine. […] Thanks to [Ryan Murphy’s] brand, we can tap into popular culture and the zeitgeist to tell authentic human stories.”
“All’s Fair” is available on Disney+, with a new episode released every Tuesday.
