Must-See New Buddy Comedy on Netflix: You’ll Only Need 4 Hours to Watch!

Today, Netflix debuts “Young Millionaires.” Despite the English title, this is actually a French series that has a great summertime vibe…

What’s it About?

On Friday the 13th, in the 13th district, Samia, Leo, David, and Jess, childhood friends, hit the lottery jackpot. But at 17, they can’t cash the ticket… It’s the first of many problems because winning big at this age opens the door to a landslide of troubles. After all, one’s not serious when they’re 17 and have 17 million!

Who’s in it?

You probably don’t recognize their faces but after watching Young Millionaires on Netflix, you’ll remember their names. This teen comedy brings together an incredibly endearing cast, led by 5 talents who light up the screen: Abraham Wapler (The Coming of the Future), Malou Khebizi (Raw Diamond), Calixte Broisin-Doutaz (Family Ties), Sara Gançarski (in her first role) and Jeanne Boudier (An Unexpected Destiny).

Is it Worth Watching?

Igor Gotesman has done it again! The writer / director / actor / producer teams up with Netflix once more to broadcast his new series, a project he also collaborates on with his sister, Tania Gotesman.

With Young Millionaires, he does what he does best: brings together a group of friends and takes them on wild adventures. We’ve seen it in Five, Family Business, and Fiasco. These are buddy comedies that often go awry.

This time around, instead of Pierre Niney, François Civil, and others, he brings together young talents that we instantly connect with. These young actors, mainly from the film industry, will charm you with their freshness, their chemistry, and their zest for life.

Gotesman and his team pull it off once again, even though we’re getting used to the formula: the writing is clever, the cliffhangers at the end of each episode keep us wanting more, and the twists and revelations are the highlights of season 1.

We can almost forgive the scriptwriters for the language quirks (like “Wesh”, “bro”) that “represent today’s youth” according to Gotesman and the appearance of a disposable e-cigarette in one of the heroines’ hands from the first episode. We’ll also overlook the sometimes absurd situational humor and an especially annoying secondary character that we could have done without.

Young Millionaires is the perfect series to binge-watch this summer, and the Marseille settings, as well as its soundtrack dominated by the city’s most famous rappers (Jul, SCH to name a few), contribute to this. And the format is ideal: with 8 episodes of 30 minutes each (that’s 4 hours in total), this new French production from Netflix is an easy binge-watch.

And after watching season 1 of Young Millionaires, you’ll only have one desire: to befriend this group and live the wild life with them.
