Prime Video’s applauded series “Bosch” has already spawned two spin-offs and the police drama franchise isn’t stopping there!
Reacher isn’t the only hero on Prime Video. Long before the most muscular man in streaming made his appearance on the platform, there was another hero who made his mark on Prime Video. We’re talking about Bosch, of course.
Created by Amazon Studios and Fabrik Entertainment, the Bosch series first premiered on Prime Video in 2014. Starring Titus Welliver as Hieronymus “Harry” Bosch, the series ran for seven seasons before concluding. It also spawned two spin-offs, Bosch: Legacy and Ballard, with the latter recently being renewed for a second season.
Which Prime Video series is set to get a prequel?
According to Deadline, it was announced that a new prequel to Bosch, titled Bosch: Start of Watch, is in the works and will premiere on MGM+. The series will star Cameron Monaghan (known for his role in Shameless) as a young Harry Bosch, with Omari Hardwick (from Power) playing his training officer, Eli Bridges.
“There is no direct source material for Start of Watch, as the novels [from character creator Michael Connelly] do not include a Bosch prequel, although snippets about Harry’s early years are scattered throughout various books in the universe, with Connelly referring to the prequel as uncharted territory for the character,” notes the Deadline article.
The series “dates back to 1991 in Los Angeles and follows 26-year-old Harry Bosch (Cameron Monaghan) during his early years as a rookie cop. The series delves into a city on the verge of collapse, grappling with racial tensions, gang violence, and a divided local police force. Amid routine calls and escalating unrest, Bosch finds himself embroiled in a high-profile robbery and a criminal corruption network that will test his loyalty to his badge and shape his future as a detective living by the code ‘Everyone counts or no one counts.’“

Who is behind the series?
Bosch: Start of Watch is co-created and produced by Tom Bernardo, who will also serve as the showrunner, and Brian Anthony. Connelly, Henrik Bastin, Jamie Boscardin Martin, and Jasmine Russ are also executive producers.
Bernardo stated in a press release: “It’s a tremendous privilege to be able to explore both the origins of this iconic character and the Los Angeles that shaped him in the early 1990s. By telling the story of young Harry Bosch, we aim to pay tribute to the loyalty of Michael Connelly’s many readers and the wonderful audience who have followed Bosch and Bosch: Legacy over the years. We are thrilled to embark on this journey.“
No release date has yet been announced for Bosch: Start of Watch.
