Despite positive reviews, “The Sun Brothers,” the Netflix series starring Michelle Yeoh, has been cancelled and will not be seeing a second season.
It’s official: Netflix will not be renewing its action comedy series “The Sun Brothers,” which was created by Glee and American Horror Story co-creator Brad Falchuk, alongside newcomer Byron Wu, for a second season.
The news (via Deadline) comes nearly two months after the premiere of the first eight-episode season on January 4, featuring Michelle Yeoh, Justin Chien, Sam Song Li, Joon Lee, and Highdee Kuan.
This comes as disappointing news to fans, as The Sun Brothers was praised by critics for the outstanding performance of Michelle Yeoh, who recently won an Oscar for Everything Everywhere All at Once.

The series, which spent five weeks in Netflix’s Top 10 English-language series, even reaching second place, reportedly failed to draw a large audience. Its performance was seen as modest by Netflix’s standards, with weekly view counts consistently under 7 million and dropping below 2 million in its last two weeks in the Top 10.

Described as a dark comedy-drama and a family saga, The Sun Brothers follows Taipei gangster Charles Sun (Justin Chien), who is settled into his life as a ruthless killer. But when his father is gunned down by an unknown assassin, Charles must travel to Los Angeles to protect his mother (Michelle Yeoh) and younger brother Bruce (Sam Song Li), who are completely unaware of the danger that awaits them.

With its spectacular action and fight scenes, comedy, and misunderstandings, The Sun Brothers aimed to be entertaining, subtle, and sarcastic, all while featuring endearing characters and a compelling plot.
Its single season remains on Netflix, and is worth watching for its quality and for the performance of its lead actress.
