Shocking True Story of Cult in Netflix’s Anthracite – What They Don’t Want You to Know!

In the 90’s, a real-life cult operated between Canada, Switzerland, and France. This cult has served as the inspiration for “Anthracite,” the new French series on Netflix.

In 1994, a cult in a small Alpine village made headlines with a mass suicide. Fast forward 30 years, and the murder of a woman following the strange rituals of the cult, disrupts the delicate balance maintained by the villagers. This is the plotline of Anthracite, the latest French series on Netflix, featuring actors Hatik, Noémie Schmidt, and Camille Lou.

Spiritual Journey and Reincarnation

The series creators, Fanny Robert and Maxime Berthemy, drew inspiration from a real event that occurred in the Vercors massif in the 90’s. Police discovered 13 charred bodies arranged in a star pattern, which led to links with other mass suicides in Canada and Switzerland in the preceding months. The common thread among these deaths was the victims’ affiliation with the Order of the Solar Temple cult.

What could the cult’s leaders have promised to persuade 74 members to die? Were these really mass suicides? These are the questions we aim to answer in this new episode of “This is a True Story”.

Anthracite, a six-episode series available on Netflix.
