Netflix is set to bring to life a fictional character conceived by Norwegian author Jo Nesbo, and anticipation is already high for this dark and intense police thriller.
Following its successful adaptation of Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen’s work in The Forgotten Files (a huge hit in 2025), Netflix is now turning its attention to another iconic Nordic author who has sold over 50 million copies of his crime novels: Jo Nesbø. The streaming platform has announced that in March 2026, it will adapt the adventures of Harry Hole, the author’s most well-known paper character, first imagined in 1997.
The series, titled Detective Hole, will unfold in the chilly city of Oslo. Here’s a sneak peek at the plot: Police Inspector Harry Hole is found lying on his small apartment floor, drunk, fired, and deserted by his girlfriend. Soon after, a woman is discovered murdered with her index finger severed. Harry Hole is given one last assignment.
There’s already a film about Harry Hole, played by a prominent American actor!
“A Tale of Justice and Vengeance”
Tobias Santelmann (Exit) will embody this reticent anti-hero, joined by Joel Kinnaman (The Suicide Squad) as his corrupt colleague Tom Waaler, and Pia Tjelta (State of Happiness) portraying Rakel Fauke.
Detective Hole is set to be a dark police drama with a gritty atmosphere that is sure to captivate audiences. If the Netflix series mirrors the quality of Jo Nesbø’s novels, some of the best-selling Nordic Noir globally, then viewers have every reason to be excited.
Netflix has also teased the series, promising a “tale of obsession, betrayal, and blurred lines between justice and revenge. As Harry Hole confronts his arch-enemy Tom Waaler, audiences will be drawn into a cat-and-mouse game where the stakes couldn’t be higher.”
Considering French subscribers’ fondness for such intense thrillers (as evidenced by the success of Murders in Are and The Asset this year), it can be confidently predicted that Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole will find its audience in France. The series, consisting of 9 episodes, will be available on Netflix from March 26th.
