Will Reeve, the son of deceased “Superman” actor Christopher Reeve, is scheduled to make a guest appearance in James Gunn’s forthcoming “Superman: Legacy,” which is currently being filmed in Cleveland.
The 32-year-old journalist for ABC News was spotted on set, filming a scene for the movie on Tuesday morning, as reported by Cleveland.com.
Will Reeve is cast as a TV reporter in the movie, as reported by Deadline, a role that resonates with his actual profession as a news correspondent for ABC News. He is the youngest of Christopher Reeve’s three children, and the only child of Christopher Reeve and his widow Dana Reeve.
Christopher Reeve is best known for his role as Superman in the 1978 film “Superman: The Movie,” directed by Richard Donner. His portrayal marked the beginning of a legacy that saw him wear the famous cape in three sequels: “Superman II” (1980), “Superman III” (1983) and “Superman IV: The Quest for Peace” (1987).
The new movie is directed by Gunn, who is recognized for his work on the “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise. He is also the author of the screenplay, which is inspired by characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. The movie, a DC Studios production, is set to be released on July 11, 2025.
The Reeve family continues to honor Christopher Reeve’s legacy, with Will Reeve serving on the board of directors for the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, a foundation committed to research on spinal cord injuries. Christopher Reeve, who passed away in 2004 at the age of 52 following a disabling injury in a horseback riding accident in 1995, left a significant mark on both the entertainment industry and advocacy for rights of the disabled.
The cast for the new “Superman” includes David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl. Milly Alcock, known for her role as young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in six episodes of “House of the Dragon,” will play Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl.
Henry Cavill, who previously portrayed the superhero in “Man of Steel,” “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Justice League,” and who left his role in “The Witcher” to return to the franchise, lost the Superman role in 2022, months after Gunn and Peter Safran were appointed to lead DC Studios for Warner Bros. Discovery.
“After being instructed by the studio to announce my return in October, before their appointment, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s how it goes,” Cavill said in a statement that December. “Leadership changes are a part of life. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to create. I wish them and everyone involved in the new universe all the best, and the most prosperous of fortunes.”
