It is no new news that Vidya Balan is one of the first body positivists in Bollywood Industry. But sadly, there are only a bunch of them who promote body positivity in Bollywood. The actress has faced many belittling questions by the media. Some ask her whether she will ever lose weight and play main stream heroine and some ask whether she will be fat and continue making female centric movies.
The actress was deeply offended by the questions and gave a befitting reply to all the haters and body shamers. In an initiative associated with her radio show Dhun Badal Ke toh Dekho with Vidya Balan on 92.7 Big FM, she made a video on body positivity.
She is seen singing to old Bollywood songs, and she has just tweaked up the lyrics. She is done with the haters who shamelessly troll her for her weight, height and colour. She calls out people and asks them to be sensitive.
“Kabhi Tu Moti Kehta hai, Kabhi tu Choti kehta hai, Kabhi tu kali kehta hai, kabhi tu sawli kehta hai, Teri in baton se mera dil dukhta hai, Tu jaane anjaane mein kyun nadani karta hai”
“Sometimes you call me fat, sometimes you call me short, sometimes you call me black, sometimes you call me tanned, you hurt me with your words, why do you hurt me so?”
In this powerful video, she slams her haters but also begs them to be sensitive towards all. The unrealistic beauty standards of the advertising industry and the films have set the bar too high for women. Vidya Balan embraces her skin and slays at the end of the videos where she throws away the cloth that covers her body and flaunts her curvalicious figure in a saree. Needless to say we need more women in the industry with her kind of confidence.
