Blockbuster Sci-Fi Showrunner Adapts Mega-Hit Sold Over 60 Million Copies: Guess Who?

Ubisoft’s video game franchise, launched in 2004 and sold in more than 60 million copies worldwide, is set for a television adaptation by small screen wizard, Noah Hawley.

One project that we are definitely keeping a close eye on is the small screen adaptation of the video game series Far Cry. Why? Because the project is being helmed by Noah Hawley. He burst onto the scene in 2014 with his series Fargo, and has since become one of television’s most sought-after writers.

He’s been doing amazing work with FX, with whom he has an exclusivity agreement. After tackling a sci-fi monument with Alien: Earth, Hawley has found his next project. Along with Rob Mac (Always Sunny in Philadelphia), he’s taking on a video game franchise that has been the talk of the town for the past two decades.

An Ambitious Project

In 2004, Ubisoft launched a next-generation first-person shooter game that literally defined the open-world gaming (with a map that can be freely explored). Players were invited to play an ex-American armed forces soldier on a mission on a paradisiac island.

Five sequels and spin-offs were released, with the latest installment in 2021 making a big splash. After Michael Mando (Vaas), another actor from the Breaking Bad / Better Call Saul universe is chosen to play the new main villain of Far Cry 6: Giancarlo Esposito. In total, 60 million copies have been sold worldwide.

The uniqueness of the Far Cry series is that it offers a different plot and characters with each installment. And the FX series will follow the same idea since it will be an anthology:

“Creating a large action series that can evolve year after year, while constantly exploring human nature through this complex and chaotic prism, is a dream come true”, Hawley announced in a press release.

It is not yet known whether the writers will follow the games’ storyline, but they have promised a story that is “original, gripping, and extremely entertaining.” It has already been announced that Rob Mac will play one of the main roles in the first season, in a role that is kept secret. It remains to be seen whether Esposito or Mando will be up for starring in Far Cry, to create a bridge between the two mediums.

This Far Cry series will be available in France via Disney+.
