In addition to the currently filming HBO series, another project adapting the “Harry Potter” novels is bringing together the cream of British cinema.
Harry Potter fans, prepare to get your money’s worth with not one, but two adaptations! The novels of J.K. Rowling, which already inspired eight films in the 2000s, continue to captivate millions of readers worldwide. To cater to a new generation of fans, HBO Max is producing a fresh series adaptation, with its first season currently in production.
Two new adaptations are in the works!
This adaptation will feature a brand-new cast led by Dominic McLaughlin, who has been selected to portray the young wizard. Professor Dumbledore will be played by John Lithgow, Professor Snape by Paapa Essiedu, and Professor McGonagall by Janet McTeer. The entire cast for the first season has been announced, except for Lord Voldemort, whose actor is likely to be unveiled only when the series airs in 2027.
But there’s another project that’s attracting attention, mainly due to its stellar lineup. Potter Heads may have heard rumors of an adaptation that will see Hugh Laurie (House M.D.) as Professor Dumbledore, Michelle Gomez (Doctor Who) as Professor McGonagall, and Riz Ahmed (Rogue One) as Professor Snape.
We know who will play Voldemort in this version!
On the villain side, Keira Knightley (Pirates of the Caribbean) has been chosen to play Professor Umbridge, and Matthew Macfadyen (Succession) will portray Lord Voldemort. Fans won’t have to wait long to explore this new version, as the first installment is already available on the audio content platform Audible.
The adaptations of all seven novels will be unveiled, at a rate of one per month until May 12th. The audio version of the first book – Harry Potter at the School of Wizardry – runs for 8h40, suggesting that subsequent episodes will likely be even longer. This provides an excellent way for fans to bide their time while waiting for the HBO Max series, slated for 2027.
