Denzel Washington Surprises Lenny Kravitz with Video Call During Italy Concert!

During a performance in Italy, Lenny Kravitz paused his concert to take a phone call from his close friend, Denzel Washington.

“Excuse me, my dear friend just rang me to say hello,” Kravitz informed the audience at the Umbria Jazz Festival on Friday. “Do you know Denzel Washington?”

The crowd gave a roaring cheer as the “Fly Away” artist used the opportunity to introduce a grinning Washington. “Take care, my friend, I love you. I’ll get back to you afterward,” Kravitz ended the call with these words.

Kravitz later posted a video of the incident on his Instagram, captioning it, “When your friend calls while you’re performing.”

The artist, who has won the Grammy four times, was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in March. He was accompanied by his daughter, actress Zoe Kravitz, and Washington at the event. While giving the introductory speech, Washington, the “Training Day” star, spoke about his long-standing friendship with Kravitz that spans over three decades.

“He’s not just a friend, not just a brother. We’re like twins, albeit not looking the same. We’ve maintained a close friendship, akin to brotherhood, for nearly 30 years,” Washington shared. “I met him when he was just 7. He’s been blessed with an extraordinary talent and an even more extraordinary heart. He’s a giver, a lover… We’re inseparable. We are brothers. I love Lenny Kravitz. I love him like I’ve loved no other brother in my life.”

The bond between Kravitz and Washington in Hollywood traces back to 2002, when Kravitz, the “American Woman” singer, awarded Washington at GQ’s Men of the Year event.

The duo also appeared on “The Late Show With David Letterman” in 2014, where they discussed a boat journey they undertook together along Italy’s Amalfi Coast, during which they watched all of Washington’s films.

“Denzel never revisits his films; he just makes them and moves on,” Kravitz revealed to Letterman. “I persuaded him to watch all of his films.”

“We didn’t watch all of them,” Washington contradicted.

“Yes, we did… ‘John Q,’ ‘Man on Fire,’ ‘Malcolm X’… We watched them all,” Kravitz insisted.

Kravitz’s tour supporting “Blue Electric Light” continues, with a sold-out concert on Tuesday at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and another performance in the Czech Republic three days later.
