TV Legend Robert Logan from ’77 Sunset Strip’ Dead at 82 – You Won’t Believe How He Lived His Life!

Renowned for his role as the valet parking attendant in ABC’s detective series “77 Sunset Strip”, Robert Logan has passed away at the age of 82.

On Thursday, his son Anthony Francis Logan confirmed to The Times that Robert Logan had died of natural causes in Estero, Florida on May 6th. His family held back from publicizing his death until this week to allow time for his official obituary to be completed.

Anthony Logan shared his fond memories of his father, describing him as an exceptional individual and a wonderful, adventurous father, much like the character Skip Robinson that he portrayed in films. He expressed his family’s gratitude for having known and experienced life with him.

Robert Francis Logan Jr., born on May 29, 1941, in Brooklyn, was the eldest of eight children to Francis Logan, a bank executive, and Catherine Quigley. He attended the University of Arizona on a baseball scholarship, where he was discovered by a talent scout from Warner Bros.

Logan’s big break came when he landed the role of the “hip, slang-talking” valet driver J.R. Hale in the detective series “77 Sunset Strip”. The show featured Efren Zimbalist Jr. and Roger Smith as the quick-witted, woman-chasing detectives Stu Bailey and Jeff Spencer, working from their office on Los Angeles’ 77 Sunset Strip. Logan’s character, Hale, was featured in 50 episodes of the fourth and fifth seasons and he eventually replaced the earlier valet, Kookie, played by Edd Byrnes, who was promoted to join the detective team.

After “77 Sunset Strip” ended, Logan made appearances in episodes of “Dr. Kildare” and “Mr. Novak”. He also reunited with Byrnes in the 1965 musical comedy “Beach Ball”, and he co-starred with Fess Parker as Jericho Jones on NBC’s “Daniel Boone”.

Logan earned further fame for his role as Skip Robinson in the 1975 movie “The Adventures of the Wilderness Family”. The plot revolved around Skip Robinson, an LA construction worker, fleeing the grime and crime of city life to live in a cabin he had built in the Rocky Mountains, accompanied by his wife Susan Damante and their two young children.

The independent film was a hit, raking in $28.8 million at the box office. The success of the movie led to two sequels, “The Further Adventures of the Wilderness Family” in 1978 and “Mountain Family Robinson” in 1979.

Logan’s final significant role was in the 1986 erotic romance film “A Night in Heaven”, where he played a rocket engineer and estranged husband.

Logan is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Catherine, his sisters Maureen Messrah and Carol Dawson, his brother Francis Logan Jr., his niece Brittany Bertram, and his nephew-in-law, Scott Wilson.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Alina; his daughter, Courtney Worthington; son, Anthony; daughter-in-law, Hayley; his three granddaughters, Elsa Worthington, Ingrid, and Alma Logan; as well as his siblings Logan “Patty”Lahey, Theresa Bertram, Janet Haines, Timothy Logan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Logan’s final resting place is the Cedar Grove Cemetery, located on the grounds of the University of Notre Dame.
