What You Need to Know
Disney+ is offering its subscribers an exclusive treat with Tracker, a police drama aired on CBS in the United States. The series, featuring Justin Hartley and based on the novel The Never Game by Jeffery Deaver, has enjoyed considerable success across the Atlantic, having been renewed a month after its February 2024 launch.
The first episode aired immediately after the Superbowl – a sporting event that attracts millions of viewers each year – helping it achieve a record: the most-watched new TV series in six years, thereby surpassing Young Sheldon.
According to numbers shared by the reputable Nielsen, the pilot was viewed 30 million times, counting viewings on CBS and Paramount+ where it was promptly uploaded.
The broadcasting network wisely chose a popular actor. Before stepping into the role of survivalist Colter Shaw, Justin Hartley had millions of viewers in tears with the drama This is Us, which concluded in 2022.
CBS
This presents a change of pace for the actor, who is also known for his role as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow in Smallville. Tracker takes us to the mountainous landscapes of America where the hero, a modern-day bounty hunter, assists police across the country.
Tracker is a procedural series – each episode features a different investigation – with an overarching storyline. The first episode sets up the main plot, which involves the hero’s past: we learn that his father, a recluse who taught him everything he knows, died under mysterious circumstances, and he has a strained relationship with his brother.
With plenty of flashbacks, the series provides just enough clues to keep us hooked for the next episodes. While original in concept but traditional in execution, Tracker is sure to appeal to the French audience, who are fond of crime dramas.
Tracker, exclusively available on Disney+ starting today.
