The series “All’s Fair” featuring Kim Kardashian, Glenn Close, and Naomi Watts, released on Disney+, doesn’t seem to be a hit with the English-speaking press. Let’s take a look at some of the “punchlines” thrown at the series.
Penned by the television powerhouse Ryan Muprhy, known for series like Nip/Tuck, Glee, American Horror Story, and Monstre, All’s Fair marks the start of the creator’s contract with Disney+ following years of exclusivity with Netflix. But it’s safe to say that the American press didn’t exactly warm up to his latest venture.
Although the series currently holds a 3.1 out of 5 rating from AlloCiné viewers, we couldn’t resist sharing some of the funniest (and sometimes wildly overblown) reviews from the international press.
According to The Telegraph: “Ryan Murphy is the high priest of tasteless television, and this year, he’s outdone himself with a horrifying series likely to induce nightmares in viewers”
As per The Guardian : “Bewildering, incomprehensible, existentially awful. […] We didn’t think it was still possible to make television this bad. We thought there was some kind of minimum standard, some essential craftsmanship that now prevents any TV production from falling below a certain level. But we were wrong.”
According to The Times : “It feels like the script was written by a two-year-old incapable of proper writing. […] Kim Kardashian must have an enormous ego to star in what is arguably the worst drama series ever made.”
According to USA Today : “A miserably bad spectacle, with scenarios worse than those from the Chat GPT two years ago and acting more disastrous than a live nativity scene, All’s Fair is a complete disaster of such magnitude that one wonders how no one in production ever questioned: “What are we doing?”
And finally, our favorite quote, so extreme it’s laughable, comes again from The Times: “[Kim Kardashian] is to cinema what Genghis Khan is to democracy,” the very definition of a balanced opinion.
Is All’s Fair really that bad?
Jokes aside, some of these reviews seem to harbor a certain contempt for the project itself, particularly towards Kim Kardashian, who is targeted more for who she is than for her actual performance. All’s Fair is a series that’s deliberately excessive, immoderately glam, which makes it a rather interesting contemporary pop piece.
While we won’t claim that the series is a Shakespearean-level drama, there’s a certain casualness and self-awareness in All’s Fair that also makes it entertaining.
All’s Fair is available on Disney+, with a new episode every Tuesday.
